Cardiovascular Care Strengthened as Merit Health Central Completes Renovation Project
12/4/2020
Patients receiving cardiovascular care at Merit Health Central will receive their treatment in a newly completed unit. The hospital recently celebrated a significant milestone in an ongoing construction and renovation project underway at the Jackson hospital with the renovation and transformation of a third floor unit dedicated solely to patients undergoing cardiac catheterization procedures. This remodeled unit will also be occupied by cardiac patients requiring recovery time and cardiovascular critical care observation.
“Patients will receive the same safe, quality care but in a newly renovated area designed to strengthen care. We’re very pleased to celebrate this new chapter at Merit Health Central,” said Tom Wills, MPPM, BSN, RN, chief operating officer. “We are committed to providing compassionate care in modern, upgraded facilities. These improvements, planned with the future in mind, will help us to honor that commitment to patients and families for decades to come.”
The unit offers a total of 10 cath lab prep and recovery rooms; eight cardiac step-down rooms and four additional beds for private critical cardiovascular care, Wills said. He added the area will accommodate cardiac patients during their critical time of need while focusing on enhanced privacy, efficiency and patient satisfaction.
The remaining phases of the multi-million dollar project will include:
- Renovation of Adult Medical Intensive Care and Burn Intensive Care Units
- Modernization of Emergency Department for increased efficiency
- Interior improvements, including renovation of family waiting areas, communication systems and patient room conveniences
“Offering comprehensive medical care close to home makes it easier for patients to receive the necessary treatment they need,” said Laura Knight, MSN, RN, chief nursing officer.” Offering these services locally makes it easier for families to provide support. We want our patients to know they can receive quality medical care and treatment in a centrally-located facility.”
Merit Health Central is dedicated to the multi-year project so the latest medical technologies are offered in modern, upgraded patient care areas and public spaces utilized by families and visitors.
