September 18, 2024 - Jackson, MS — In a significant development for local healthcare, Merit Health Central proudly announces the grand opening of its new chemical dependency unit. This unit provides treatment and support for individuals struggling with substance use disorders, marking an expansion of the hospital’s existing behavioral health services.
To mark the occasion, a ribbon cutting led by the Greater Jackson Chamber Partnership was held at Merit Health Central on September 17, 2024, and was attended by Jackson Mayor Chokwe Lumumba and other elected officials, physicians, hospital administrators, staff, and board members, as well as representatives from the Rankin and Clinton chambers and other community advocates. Speakers at the event praised the new unit as a crucial step forward in addressing the growing needs of the community. The chemical dependency unit is designed to offer a range of services, including detoxification, inpatient rehabilitation and relapse prevention.
Rick Kolaczek, chief administrative officer at Merit Health Central, emphasized the importance of this new unit. “As a provider of behavioral health services, Merit Health is committed to helping individuals and families on their journey to mental health. Each one of us knows someone who has been impacted by addiction, the effects of which can leave people feeling hopeless. Through our new chemical dependency services, we are proud to offer hope to those experiencing an addiction crisis.”
The unit is staffed by a multidisciplinary team of experts, working together to develop personalized treatment plans addressing both the physical and psychological aspects of addiction. In addition to medical treatment, the unit offers a range of therapeutic services, including individual counseling, group therapy, family support programs, and education. The goal is to support patients not only through their immediate recovery but also in building the skills and resilience necessary for long-term sobriety.
The opening of the chemical dependency unit is also a response to the increasing need for specialized addiction services in the region. By expanding its services, Merit Health Central aims to fill a critical gap in the local healthcare landscape. As the new chemical dependency unit begins its operations, Merit Health Central is committed to fostering a supportive environment where patients can embark on their journey to recovery with confidence and hope.
