10/3/2017
Hattiesburg – Merit Health Wesley is happy to welcome Dexter Ware as its new Chaplain.
Ware is a native of Jackson, Miss. and former Chaplain of Baptist Memorial Hospitals in Memphis, Tenn. and Oxford, Miss. Before coming to Merit Health Wesley, Ware worked as pastor of Harrisville United Methodist Church in Harrisville, Miss.
Ware received a bachelor of arts from Mississippi College and a master of divinity from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He is ordained as a United Methodist Elder by the Mississippi Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. He is board-certified by the College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy as a Chaplain and Pastoral Counselor. Ware also has a Denominational Endorsement as a Hospital Chaplain from the General Board of the United Methodist Church.
As Chaplain, Ware is available to both patients and their family members to help meet spiritual and emotional needs and provide counseling and support. He is also available to assist patients with contacting their own ministers and can assist in creating advanced directives. Ware is the second person to hold the position of chaplain at Merit Health Wesley. Former Chaplain, Roger Flowers, retired in June after 32 years of service to the hospital. Ware is happy to carry on the heritage of pastoral care begun by Flowers.
“The staff of Merit Health Wesley shows that they care not only about the physical health of patients, but also about the patient’s emotional and spiritual needs,” said Ware. “I’m happy to be a part of the team whose mission is Loving God, Serving Others, Excelling in Healthcare.”
