Adult Inpatient Care
Behavioral health services at Merit Health provide acute, short-term programs for patients age 18 and older needing 24-hour care in a safe, secure, supportive and therapeutic environment.
We strive to provide a pleasant, comfortable and safe environment for adults suffering from mental illness or substance abuse. This program accepts patients at least 18 years old for both inpatient or outpatient treatment. The inpatient program offers crisis stabilization and management for acute behavioral health issues.
The goal of the programs is to stabilize patients with acute symptoms and help them move smoothly and quickly from hospital to home. The intensive, structured, physician-supervised programs are designed to give patients the skills and tools necessary to function in everyday life.

- Individual counseling
- Group therapy
- Stress management
- Medication management
- Recreational therapy
- Discharge planning
What should you look for?
Signs and symptoms of adults struggling with behavioral health can vary. Some things to look for are:
- Severe agitation
- Excessive and uncontrolled anger
- Violent behavior
- Hearing voices
- Severe mood swings
- Suicidal thoughts or behavior
- Medication non-compliance
- Sad or blank looks
- Social isolation
- Decreased or increased sleeping habits
- Disregard for personal appearance
- Confusion and forgetfulness
- Poor appetite or overeating
- Crying spells
