Young people with behavioral or emotional problems often struggle at home and in school. Problems making friends, succeeding in school and participating in extracurricular activities can become serious issues.

From the assessment process to the discharge planning process, the primary focus is on the needs of the individual patient and giving them the tools for continued recovery and a sense of hope.
The behavioral health team at Merit Health provides treatment to adolescents between the ages of 12 to 17 who display one or a combination of any of the following:
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Obsessive compulsive disorders
- Post traumatic stress
- Self injurious behavior
- Oppositional defiance
- Mood disorders
- Psychosis
- Suicidal thoughts/tendencies
- Behavioral problems
Program Features:
- Psychiatric stabilization services
- Psychological testing, if necessary
- Medication management
- Individualized treatment based on patient and family needs and strengths
- Art/expressive therapy, psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), skill(s) development, spirituality and psycho-educational programs
- Academic support
- Accommodation of dietary restrictions
- Collaboration with families and community resources
- Skilled, caring and experienced staff, including child psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists, nurses and mental health counselors
- Access to hospital medical services
- Discharge planning
